WELCOME TO PORT TOWNSEND FILM STUDIO:

We're currently a virtual studio - operating online while filming on location in Eastern Washington. We're a self-funded independent studio establishing filmmaking throughout Washington State, empowering creators to tell stories featuring our amazing landscape.

OUR EXPERIENCED TEAM: 

Collectively over 30 years working with industry giants like Marvel, Disney, Hulu, 20th Century Fox, Sony, ABC, HBO, Warner Bros., Apple TV, and more. 

A NOTE FROM THE HEART 

We treasure Port Townsend's community and businesses—after all, we've called this home for 40 years. We will miss our favorite coffee shops, restaurants, book store and mercantile, and especially the daily conversations with neighbors who've become family over the decades. We hope to return and shoot significant exterior portions of our films in PT in 2027. While we're passionate about building a film-friendly future here and have invested generously in our local economy, we recognize the timing isn't right. Our PT roots will always inform the authentic, community-centered approach we're bringing to Walla Walla.

WHY WALLA WALLA? 

During our time in Walla Walla, the leadership recognized our professional reputation and our commitment to bringing quality film projects and jobs to the region. They have diverse filming locations, tax-friendly policies, solid infrastructure, and abundant accommodations for cast and crew. Our meetings and feasibility studies have led to planning a Walla Walla Film Summit—a collaborative event to showcase local talent and build industry partnerships that will create jobs and economic opportunities for the region.

FILM TRAINING IN WALLA WALLA

The region's educational institutions offer comprehensive film programs ranging from hands-on production training with professional equipment to BFA degrees with industry connections and technical workforce development for crew and special effects.

We're impressed by their leadership and skilled crew base.

OUR GOAL 

To demonstrate that community-centered filmmaking works and inspire industry leaders and independent studios to invest in small-town storytelling communities. By building this model in Walla Walla, we aim to prove that rural regions can be vibrant hubs for authentic, economically impactful film production that honors local stories while attracting national attention.

Port Townsend Film Studio Announces Film Option for "Secret History of Port Townsend"

Port Townsend Film Studio is excited to announce the film option of Dylan James Quarles' acclaimed paranormal short story series, "Secret History of Port Townsend." 

Quarles has been tapped to adapt his own work for the screen, bringing his haunting tales of Pacific Northwest mysteries to life.

Quarles has completed the screenplay for the first film, tentatively titled "The Maintenance Man," based on his gripping short story "The Thing Army Engineers Unearthed at Fort Worden." 

He is currently developing the script for the highly anticipated sequel, drawn from his atmospheric tale "The Selkies of Port Townsend Bay."

Known for weaving together the rich history and supernatural folklore of the Olympic Peninsula, Quarles' stories have captivated readers with their unique blend of local mythology and spine-tingling suspense. His transition from page to screen promises to deliver the same compelling storytelling that has made the Secret History series a regional favorite.

Production details and casting announcements will be forthcoming as the project moves into pre-production.

DIVING INTO AI CONTENT!

Beyond filming, we're diving into investing in AI production with two original comedy series launching in 2026 that blend Evergreen State culture with universal themes.

SCI-FI HIGH

Intelligent Life at Butte High? Seriously?" 

Sci-Fi High follows 14-year-old genius Lia Newton navigating small-town high school, where her brilliant mind and Star Trek obsession make her more target than star. With loyal friends Rushika and Pablo, Lia discovers that being the smartest person in the room isn't always an advantage in this teen comedy about friendship, belonging, and finding your tribe.

SHED BOYS

 Draws from Port Townsend's unique off-grid community: the Shed Boys and Shed Girls who live in the woods without electricity or running water, powered by solar energy, home-brewed kombucha, and hemp products from the Saturday farmers market. This environmentally-conscious comedy follows these characters—plus some mythical creatures—creating alternative lifestyles while tackling climate change, relationships, and modern life with humor and heart.
